Sarah's expression had remained neutral, her eyes pretty intently staying fixed on his as she nodded a few times while listening. It was all pretty much sounding real messed up. Such a normal life just turning into a nightmare like that. She was quiet for a minute once he finished, as he exhaled and put that smile back on his face. Facing one day at a time...that was all they could really do, wasn't it? The struggle to keep focusing on the here and now, trying not to look too far back or too far forward.
Her own eyes lowered as she continued to think over what he'd told her. When he'd mentioned his sister, that looked like it was toughest part for him. Someone he had probably looked after or somethin'. And it was the vampire guy who'd killed her after she turned. When Matt first mentioned him, Sarah had wondered if maybe he was still a little jealous that Elena had chosen the 'perfect, handsome' guy, but maybe it wasn't like that. Maybe...he sort of resented the guy a little for killing his sister. She'd totally get why he would. Maybe he wasn't even aware of it. Maybe part of him even blamed vampirism itself.
And, hell...every single person he mentioned was some form of supernatural. A witch, a werewolf turned hybrid, couple of vamps, a vampire hunter. Was he, like, the only human in his circle of friends? That must've been tough. Watching that happen, feeling a little outside of it, watching things just change so drastically like that. Never being able to go back to how things were.
What a crazy life.
"Damn," she muttered, before looking up at him, that sympathy she was feeling pretty strongly showing through her gaze as she just shook her head and met his eyes. "That...really sucks." She offered him as consoling a smile as she felt she could, "I'm sorry." He was so open about all of this, about all of those things that happened. It could be such a hard thing to do, but all she had to do was ask and he had shared. It was pretty cool. "Seems like...that's pretty much what we've all gotta do. Jut take one day at a time."
He'd seemed so carefree when she saw him greet that vendor, carrying a conversation, enjoying those simple things. She had to give him lots of respect points for being able to carry on like that. And all so genuinely too.
