Matt Donovan Releasing a loud sigh, Sarah made her way from her unit and towards the town center, or quarter, whatever it was. She strolled sort of carelessly, expression neutral, but her eyes somehow found a sort of wonder in the lights that were glowing from the open businesses. They poured over the dark street, creating an appealing display of shadow and light. It was late, so there weren't many people around, but the silence was kind of nice. It had this whole solemn effect. It was fitting.
Glancing up, the moon glowered down at her, and it was still cool to her to consider that, even though everything on earth had been fucked with, everything above it was still the same -- untouched. It was weird how something like that could be even a little comforting.
'But anyway,' she thought, bringing herself out of all that and focusing on where she was headed. Entering the square, she paused and went about deciding which food truck she'd be visiting. What was she in the mood for? It didn't matter much, but mundane decisions like that provided a normalcy that she appreciated. Looking at a few different ones, she decided to go with the closest truck, and moved towards it unhurriedly.
Ordering something that looked tasty enough, Sarah then moved to one of the nearby tables to wait for it. She absently sipped on her drink, something that passed for cola these days, and watched the people who happened to pass by with mild interest.
Letting out a long sigh, Matt stepped outside the bar, finally able to hand in his apron for the night, and grateful that someone else had offered to close up. He folded his tips for the night once and then buried them in his pocket. He'd put them in his jar back in his room once he got back to the apartment. For now, he was kinda starved, and handling the food, even if it was bar food, hadn't really helped with that.
He decided to take a detour on his way back to his place and pick up something to eat. Resting his hands in his pockets, he took a turn down the cobblestone streets, headed toward the center of the square. There were always a bunch of food trucks lined up around there. Once he got there, he took a sec to decide which one to go to, they all looked pretty good right about now, and he just went with the one that sold burgers.
After chatting with the guy a minute, and ordering a burger, fries and a soda, Matt turned and glanced over at a couple of the tables nearby. Only one of them was taken, and he furrowed his brow as he focused on the girl seated there by herself. She looked pretty calm, sitting there, watching the few people in the area. Her dark eyes seemed to be sort of offhandedly assessing everyone.
Hm...well, there wasn't really any harm in taking the time to talk to someone while he waited on his food, was there? If she didn't want any company, he'd leave her alone.
Walking up to the table she was seated at, Matt offered her a friendly smile, as he placed a hand on the back of the chair across from her. "This seat taken?"

Sarah tilted her head as she looked to the guy standing across from her. She'd absently noticed him as he chatted it up with the vendor, all smiles and friendliness. He looked a little familiar too. Maybe she'd seen him around somewhere? Wouldn't be too out there considering there were only a handful of their kind around. Narrowing her eyes a little, she pondered his offer. There weren't any, like, red flags or anything, but maybe that was just her overly trusting nature at work. Still, it was hard to ignore how genuine he looked. And he was polite, so that was a plus.
After another second of decision-making, she offered a faint nod as she sighed in defeat before managing a small smile and motioning a hand. It might be nice to talk with someone, it was something she hadn't really done too much of in awhile.
At the nod she offered him, he took the seat, though that sigh didn't escape his notice, and neither did the time she'd spent deliberating her answer. He guessed it made sense, trust was pretty hard to come by these days, you never knew who might end up screwing you over. All things considered, he guessed it was kinda surprising she had given him the okay at all.
"If you wanna be alone, I'm cool with sitting somewhere else," he informed her, raising his brow in curiosity as he waited to gauge her reaction.
"Everyone's special in their own way, and then there's just me."

Sarah's smile formed into a slight smirk, and she eyed him with some bit of amusement. "Hey, I thought long and hard about this," her tone was some in-between of sincere and joking, and she set her drink down before continuing. "I would've had no problem telling you to sit somewhere else if I wanted to be alone." She held up a hand to sort of amend what she just said, "a polite rendition of that, of course, but still somethin' along those lines."
"Well hey, I'm glad to hear it," Matt informed her, his smile returning as he listened to her. She sure had alot of spunk. "I like it when people are straight with me. No games. Makes it alot easier."
Extending his hand across the table then and offering it to her, he told the girl, "I'm Matt, by the way."

Taking the hand he offered, she shook it and nodded. "Sarah." She retracted her hold then and returned it to her half empty drink, sort of absently rotating it and listening to the sound of the ice clanking inside. "And yeah, I totally know what you mean. I hate the game playing thing too. Have to respect when people are real with me."
"Oh yeah, totally," Matt agreed, reclining back in his seat and resting his arms against the arms of the chair. "It earns them alot of respect, in my book. I mean, even if they're a pretty horrible person, they just...gotta own it, you know?"

"For sure," Sarah nodded, completely agreeing. And hell, there were probably some pretty horrible people out there, but it did somehow earn them some respect points when they could at least own up to it. Something to do with that whole genuine thing. Everyone had their faults, but she sort of hated it when people went around acting like they didn't. That they were somehow above that. Generally, she tried to see the best in people, but sometimes...well, that could be real challenging. Especially in those cases.
She decided to change the subject and looked to her companion curiously, "so, Matt, you come here often? You kinda look familiar."
He watched silently, as her expression grew contemplative, even a little distant, and he glanced briefly to the side, his eyes wandering over the Quarter to let her have a minute with her thoughts. When she changed topics, he glanced back to her with an easy smile.
"Yeah, I come here sometimes after my shift gets out, or for lunch. I work right around the corner there, at the Jaded Blue," he replied, leaning forward a little and pointing in its general direction. "You ever been?"

Recognition entered her gaze, and Sarah smiled. "Oh yeah, I love that place. Definitely where I've seen you then." She shrugged, "but, I mostly keep to myself when I'm there, just kind of chillin in some corner somewhere, enjoying the vibe or whatever."
"That's cool," Matt nodded. "We get a few of those who come in. You strike me as the sorta person who does alot of people-watching, so it kinda makes sense. Also," here, he gave a slight chuckle, as he added, "it makes more sense why I don't recognize you. I do most of my talking to the people sitting at the bar, you know? It's harder to remember the ones who keep to themselves."

"Makes sense," she replied with a shrug. "Totally explains things too." A smirk formed then and her eyes drifted unseeingly to the left as she continued. "And yeah, I guess that's kind of how I spend most of my time there. Just...sorta watching. People can be pretty interesting sometimes." She honestly didn't know how much time she spent doing that. If she wasn't looking behind the lens of a camera at something, she was still watching as if she'd miss the perfect moment if she looked away. It was really...all she had left from her life before. All she had to hold onto now. Maybe it had become a sort of obsession, but it kept her sane. It kept her going. 'Isn't too much competition out there now as far as photography goes,' she thought humorlessly.
Looking again to Matt, she offered a smile. "Maybe I'll go for somethin' new and sit at the bar next time I'm there."
Her expression grew a little distant again, and maybe a little dark, and Matt couldn't help but feel a little curious as he watched her. He wouldn't ask her about it, though. If they were thoughts she felt like sharing, he had a feeling she would have already voiced them.
When her smile returned, he gave an easy nod, telling her, "Yeah, you definitely should. I know I can only speak for a few minutes of experience here, but you seem like a pretty cool person to hang with. And, you know...interesting as people are to watch, I think they're even more interesting to talk to."

Sarah's smile widened and she nodded, "yeah, I think you're onto somethin' there. I'm an admirer of conversation myself. People watching only goes so far, leaves things to the imagination, but when actually interacting, well, it gives a clearer picture." Then her eyes lowered a fraction as she thought over his compliment. Cool to hang with. It probably about summed it up. She didn't really feel there was much more to her than that these days. She felt sort of like...an afterimage of who she used to be. But, she'd accepted that awhile ago. This was just the way things were. Looking to him, her expression turned openly appreciative. "And thanks, Matt. Guess I make a good first impression." She smirked, her tone turning teasing. "I think I could probably say the same of you."
Niklaus Mikaelson: Heheh. That is quite the title you've concocted for her ;1 But, you're right, and we are all certainly glad you do it, puting this effort into for us. At least it's productive in some way. You could find yourself wasted also. Then where would we be?
