"Ooh...," Matt leaned back in his chair then, pretending to be offended by that remark, though a good-natured smile was still present on his face. "Probably? Guess I don't make the best first impression."

At the good-natured way he'd taken her little jab, Sarah felt a sort of unfamiliar urge before a slight laugh escaped her. It felt nice, both the laugh and that she was actually sitting here talking with someone. She had to admit, she'd kinda missed it. "Nah, no worries," she assured him. "I don't really base much off first impressions anyway."
"Oh, good," Matt nodded, with a "relieved" sigh as he pressed his hand to his chest. "I got time to make up for it, then."
Something about this girl, the look in her eyes, the sound of her laugh, it was all so real. So genuine. He couldn't really describe the feeling he got from it, but it was a cool thing to see. It was engaging. True, she seemed like she had a lot going on in her head, but it was sort of that depth in her eyes that made her so interesting.
Elena would kinda get those looks a lot, too. In fact...it had been awhile now since she hadn't gotten them. It was actually...pretty sad, seeing it. But, he guessed it couldn't really be helped. After everything that had happened, to all of them, it was a wonder any of them had managed to come out of it as unscathed as they did. Well...mostly unscathed, anyway. If you could count getting turned into vampires and hybrids and hunters, witches...everything else that they'd become, if that was unscathed. They were adjusting, getting by from one day to the next, but he wondered...if they could ever really be happy like this. Especially Elena. He still felt pretty guilty about all that, how it had happened in the first place.
But...there was also no changing what had happened. All there was left to do was live with it.

Sarah watched as Matt's expression turned kind of thoughtful, his eyes a little more distant. He looked...almost sad, but sort of accepting too. That was somethin she could definitely relate to. And he had a kInd, simple look to him. She didn't really doubt at all that they could get to know each other better. He was pretty easy to talk to.
"So, Matt, what's your story?"She asked, before looking up as the vendor waved to her. 'Wow, that's some excellent timing he's got', she thought sarcastically, but with a dose of humor too.
She held up a finger to Matt, "hold that thought."
Standing to get her food, she offered a small smile to the guy, mutterered a 'thanks', then returned to her seat, looking to her chicken sandwich and figuring it might actually be good. Taking a bite, she shrugged, "not too bad at all."
"Yeah, I've had that one before," Matt gestured to her food with a nod. "It's good."
For that matter, he'd tried most of these food trucks out, trying to mix it up every time he got a meal. And it wasn't like he had a whole lot of free time on his hands to do any of his own cooking back at the apartment.
"But, uh...," he leaned back in his seat again, with a small laugh and a shake of his head. "My story...? Maybe we should wait 'til I get my food, too. Wouldn't really wanna get interrupted in the middle of it, or anything, you know?"
"Everyone's special in their own way, and then there's just me."

Sarah smirked and offered a nod, "good call. That sort of thing tends to happen around here." She sent a swift glance to the vendor, before taking another sip of soda. She was going to be running out pretty soon. "You come here a lot, don't you? I mean, not here here, but to the trucks or whatever."
"Yeah," he responded, with a slight shrug of his shoulders. "It's a pretty easy stop. Close by. Fast, too, so that's a definite perk. By the way," he gestured to her drink, noticing the way it was starting to sound pretty empty, "you want me to get you a refill when I get up?"

"It's no problem," he told her. Just then, the guy at the food truck called out to him, and Matt stood up. "Looks like that's me," he said, before taking Sarah's drink and heading over. After grabbing his food, he talked with him a minute, but he purposefully kept it short, not wanting to keep Sarah waiting too long, and then headed back to the table.
Sliding her now full drink across the table to her, he gave her a friendly smile as he said, "There you go."
"Everyone's special in their own way, and then there's just me."

"Thanks again," Sarah nodded, taking the cup from him. She took another sip and then took a glance at what he'd ordered. A burger. She smirked, it was pretty all-American of him. But, in his defense, sometimes a good burger would totally hit the spot. "Well," she started, "get all settled or whatever and then we can get back to it."
"Sounds good," Matt told her with a light chuckle, getting all comfortable in his seat again and then taking a bite out of his burger. Yeah...that was pretty good. He followed it up with a couple of fries, before washing it down with a sip of his coke. It was kind of a generic meal, yeah, but there was something to be said for the classics. They were classic for a reason, after all, and besides...there weren't a lot of things like this around anymore. They were actually pretty lucky to have this stuff, weren't they? Anyway...
"So, uh," he glanced back up at her, dipping another fry in ketchup, before asking, "you wanted to hear my story, right?"
"Everyone's special in their own way, and then there's just me."

As Matt dug into his meal, taking a fry and just sort of sitting there munching on it, Sarah smiled a little to herself. He really had this whole simple thing about him. It was kind of refreshing to see, actually. Just a simple guy taking pleasure in the simple things. At his question though, she nodded, her eyes glinting with just a little eagerness. It really was crazy how good it felt to be talking to someone like this. "Yep," She smirked, "I'm sure it'll be interesting."
"Well...I dunno about that," he gave an easy shrug. "It just...is what it is, I think. Um...," he took a moment, leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms in front of him as he tried to figure out a place to begin. He guessed it all kinda started up, all the craziness, when Stefan showed up, huh? "It's been kind of a crazy ride," he began with a soft chuckle. "I guess, uh...well, I have this friend. Elena. She and I used to go out awhile back, back in high school, but then, uh...it didn't work out, and she kinda broke it off around the time she lost her parents. This guy showed up at school after the summer, all handsome and perfect, she started seeing him. But then, turns out...," his eyes widened a little, jokingly, "he's a vampire."
Yeah, that was...pretty much when the craziness had started. His blue eyes resting on her a moment in silence, he then added, "You know, it's...kind of a long story from there. You sure you want to hear all of it?" He'd try to sum it up as best he could.
"Everyone's special in their own way, and then there's just me."

Sarah nodded at that, not really even hesitating. "Yeah, I'm sure. I mean," she smirked a little, encouraging him to continue. "It sounds like you were just getting to the good stuff." It sounded like everything before was pretty much normal or whatever. Well, except for the part where his ex ended up dating a vampire. That was a little strange, but otherwise, uninteresting. It didn't seem like it should be uninteresting though, and she felt that strange sensation she always seemed to get whenever the vampires were mentioned. Even when she'd first realized they even existed, it hadn't surprised her and she'd been...well, uninterested was pretty much the most fitting term. Shouldn't it have at least surprised her? Even a little? Because, what always came along with that feeling, was that small trace of intrigue, and it was a little frightening sometimes. It was so subtle, and the overpowering disinterest would always overcome it in the end. She wanted to be able to hold onto that feeling, explore it a little or something.
'Whatever though, moving on,' she thought to herself before thinking over what he'd said about his friend Elena. That she'd lost her parents. It sucked. It sucked bad. And she felt pretty bad for the girl. It wasn't an easy thing to move on from, if fully moving on was even possible. Her mind started straying to that ache she began to feel in her chest at the memory of her own family, before she decided to move on from that thought too.
"Alright, well," he gave a shrug, "don't say I didn't warn you." After he took another sip of his coke, he then went ahead and continued, "So...somehow, my sister ended up becoming a vampire too, and then...I guess she kinda lost control of it, I don't really know the details, I was kept kinda in the dark about most of this until way late in the game, but...she sorta went berserk, and Elena's new boyfriend, Stefan, took her out."
It was still hard, talking about Vicki, and every time he thought of her, but...it had been awhile, and was growing pretty used to that familiar ache at this point, every time he brought her up. Just one of those things he had to accept. Anyway, he didn't really feel like lingering on that right now.
"One crazy thing kinda led to another," he continued, "one of my friends, Bonnie, ended up being a witch, we had this other friend who got turned into a vampire, Caroline, and I was sort of seeing her at the time. She was able to get control of it, though, but she sorta fell for my buddy, Tyler, who ended up being a werewolf. Somethin' happened there, he ended up having to leave, I think I heard Klaus actually turned him into a hybrid or something. Anyway...," he shook his head, "through this...horrible turn of events, Elena ended up becoming a vampire too, she sorta saved my life doing it, and then, shortly after that...Elena's brother became a vampire hunter or something, we all kinda got separated for a little bit when that...apocalypse or whatever the hell it was struck, when the veil dropped, and...one thing led to another, and...some of us ended up here, a few others ended up...well, I don't even know where."
As he came to the end of the story, Matt glanced down, at the table in front of him, giving a long, weighted exhale. "I guess I've just...kinda been takin' it one day at a time, now," he said, before lifting his eyes to the girl once more and putting a smile back on.
"Everyone's special in their own way, and then there's just me."
Niklaus Mikaelson: Heheh. That is quite the title you've concocted for her ;1 But, you're right, and we are all certainly glad you do it, puting this effort into for us. At least it's productive in some way. You could find yourself wasted also. Then where would we be?
