Qetsiyah, Decimus Marquis, Galen Vaughn, Jeremy Gilbert Torchlight flickered against the stone walls of the underground labyrinth, offering the only illumination in these dark tunnels, as the ancient hunter took long, purposeful strides toward his destination. A meeting had been called, called by their very own, beloved leader, Lady Qetsiyah, and he was determined to answer her command promptly, as always. For that matter, nothing provided him more satisfaction than serving under her, fulfilling her every demand both of him and of his collective of sworn brothers. It was a duty he took very seriously, to his utmost abilities, his role as a hunter. A hunter of the Brotherhood of the Five.
While it was true that the Brotherhood was not now what it once was, after the death of both him and his true, four brothers, their illustrious lady had managed to find a way to carry out his noble work, in the reincarnation of his hunter abilities many generations later. And in these dark times that had befallen them, there was a return to the medieval ways, and it was for this reason that he did not feel as out of the times as he otherwise would have. True, there were still weapons that were foreign to him, and he would need time to adjust, to grow accustomed to them, but it was much more readily accepted now to use the ancient methods, those of swords and fire and stones, in their conquest against the demons of the night.
These thoughts, these musings, played through his head, as Alexander pushed open the heavy, stone doors and stepped within the folds of the meeting chambers. However, as he did so, he glanced about and took note that he was the first to arrive, the first to heed Lady Qetsiyah's call. He stepped forward proudly and took his seat at the round table, the chair to the immediate right of his lady's throne. After all, it was the place most suited for him, as Lady Qetsiyah's most loyal, most dedicated, as her right hand.
"When my Brotherhood has achieved its destiny, those monsters will cease to exist."

Within the glow of the torches, Decimus absently watched the interesting shadows splayed along the walls. He rubbed at his eyes and stifled a yawn, still groggy from his nap. What he really needed was a coffee, but Lady Qetsiyah's meeting took priority. He blinked and tried to refocus his attention, tearing his eyes from the walls and their illusory images. There were quite a few things they all needed to discuss and put intoorder. Their emergence was fast approaching, and they needed some sort of strategy. The woman was clever and highly intelligent, and he entirely trusted in her judgement.
Entering the room, his eyes fell to the round table and he suppressed a mirthful smirk at the sight of Alexander, prompt as always and taking his seat at Qetsiyah's right hand. He strode forward with a slight swagger before lowering himself into the seat across from the man, the seat which would be at Qetsiyah's left. He nodded, "Alexander."
"Decimus," the medieval hunter returned, with a smile in greeting as his fellow brother took his seat. "How are you?" Taking a brief appraisal of his countenance, he remarked, "You seem tired."
"When my Brotherhood has achieved its destiny, those monsters will cease to exist."

"Yeah," Decimus shrugged, "a little. Just woke from a nap." He fought off another yawn, determined to overcome his lethargic state, especially in the eyes of one of his brethren. Hopefully it would wear off completely by the time Lady Qetsiyah arrived.
"And so through all my pain and tears I'm still holding onto those years."
"I see," Alexander said, as he folded his hands on the tabletop in front of him. "Personally, I don't take naps. I find they interrupt with my training. In fact, I often wonder if it would be better if we didn't have need for sleep at all. But then," his expression took a solemn turn as he spoke, "it is our need for such rejuvenation that ultimately separates us from those we hunt, doesn't it? It is the fact that we tire that marks us as human."

"Exactly," Decimus nodded. "I mean, personally, I enjoy my sleep far too much to ever want to give it up. It can be so refreshing." Well, except for when it was interrupted, in which case could it be very inconvenient. It was also true that they would probably have a lot more time on their hands if they didn't need it, but it was a part of life that he had always greatly appreciated. A good rest could do some real wonders.
His brows rose a fraction then and he tilted his head as he surveyed Alexander curiously. "But, really? You never take naps?"
"No, indeed," Alexander returned. "If I begin to tire near the middle of the day, I merely push past it, and use it as practice for anytime I might become fatigued during battle. It is an excellent opportunity to push my body to its limits."
Even when he slept at night, he would keep the hours he rested at the minimal his body required. The less time he spent asleep, the more time he had on his hands for what truly mattered.

"Hm," Decimus pondered that a moment, eyes drifting down to the table. He supposed that did make sense. He wasn't nearly as disciplined as Alexander, not by any means. However, he still shook his head and looked to the man. "Well, we've all got our methods. I mean, I'd personally prefer to be at that optimal level going into a fight. My body can be pushed even further if it has more to go on, you know? It seems to me that fatigue in battle can be overcome with adrenaline. That's not something that can really be factored in until it's actually happening." Besides, the man before him relied primarily on his strength, while Decimus resorted to his intellect. He needed his best judgement completely intact to succeed.
"True, but adrenaline can only take you so far, and it can only last for so long," Alexander stated firmly. "Also, once the adrenaline wears off, the body is naturally more tired than ever before. I prefer not to rely on such a thing, and also to train myself for that inevitable moment when it will begin to wear off. Of course," he smiled graciously then at the young hunter, offering a slight nod of his head in his direction, "you are right, that we all have our own methods. Our own areas of expertise. If this were not the case, then we would be a predictable mob, able to gain nothing from one another. I believe we work much better as a team because of our differences."

"Yeah..." Decimus replied with a nod, letting those words sink in. "Yeah, that's true." They really were all so different, and definitely more unpredictable because of it. When they emerged, they would really be a force to be reckoned with. He couldn't wait for the day. He smirked, "won't it be great? When all of this finally pays off? When we can both use our individual methods to set things right again?" He could feel the eagerness rising in his chest, shining through his eyes.
"And so through all my pain and tears I'm still holding onto those years."
"It will be a grand day indeed," Alexander returned, his smile widening at the mere thought of it. They would finally be able to set the world right again, and, each in their own way, they would be able to find peace. "I have long dreamt of the day when those vile creatures will cease to walk the earth, and all of humanity will once again be safe from their reign of terror. We are closer than ever to achieving this goal."

"Must be one hell of a dream," Decimus' smirk softened. He found it was more difficult for him to picture what it would be like afterwards. To force his mind past the goal they were reaching for. He could envision everything leading up to it, even the actually executing of their efforts, but beyond that...well, he wondered what the world would even look like. Would it really be as glorious as Alexander was describing? However, he nearly scoffed at himself. Of course it would. Once rid of those creatures, their lives would be in their own hands again. The power restored to where it rightfully belonged. But, more than that, he would find peace within himself. He could finally move on and move forward.
"And so through all my pain and tears I'm still holding onto those years."
"Actually, it's quite the reverse," Alexander stated with a cheeky grin, deciding to take the opportunity to play on Decimus' word choice. "All of hell will finally be wiped off the face of the earth."
"When my Brotherhood has achieved its destiny, those monsters will cease to exist."

Decimus' smirk widened again at that. What an excellent spin of his own wording. "My mistake, you're right." His expression turned thoughtful then as he considered something he'd heard growing up. A prophecy of sorts. "Have you ever heard of...the three days of darkness? During which all manner of evil will be allowed to roam free? It is said to be followed by an era of absolute peace, filled with only the good, faithful people."
"And so through all my pain and tears I'm still holding onto those years."
"I can't say that I've heard of it, but if that is true, I wonder if we are nearing the threshold of those days of darkness," the man pondered thoughtfully, his smile diminishing as he considered those words. "I cannot imagine darker times than these. The one thing that could possibly make them worse is when the Volturi rise from their lairs. Perhaps that is what the foretelling alludes to, to the few days when that evil, and all other manner of evil, is allowed free from its cages. If so...the promise of peace that will follow is something I can only pray that I am able to play a hand in. It is a very comforting thought, isn't it?"
Niklaus Mikaelson: Heheh. That is quite the title you've concocted for her ;1 But, you're right, and we are all certainly glad you do it, puting this effort into for us. At least it's productive in some way. You could find yourself wasted also. Then where would we be?
