Update. We've come a long way with what we've labeled as the "cold vampires". We've successfully managed to do the following:
Some side-effects have emerged as a result of our experiments:
Recent developments:
All in all, things are progressing well, and I remain confident about the future of our research. These results are clear evidence that science will continue to prevail and remains important to us, even after the world ends.

- We've made them stronger, therefore unkillable to the average vampire. This will prove useful when we put them up against the family.
- We've equipped some of the more gifted ones of them with special abilities that can combat even the Originals, all except for the hybrid. Something about the werewolf gene seems to interfere with that, similar to the Five Hunter's daggers.
- Clearly, we're still working out some of the bugs.
- We've adapted their skin so that it's encased with a diamond-like covering, and therefore it offers them a natural protection against sunlight. In fact, as a side effect, their skin now sparkles when exposed to the light of day.
- We've taken away their dangers of compulsion, something that has proven problematic to humans ever since the creation of their species.
- We're working to change their food source from humans to animals, and though it's proving difficult for one in particular, the other test subjects are responding well, particularly Dr. Cullen, who started himself off with exposure to animal blood from his initial transition as a vampire.
Some side-effects have emerged as a result of our experiments:
- As mentioned, they sparkle in the sunlight.
- Their very saliva, and therefore their bite, is now venomous to humans.
- Inability to sleep.
- Inability to hold down their food or drinks, other than blood. It turns to ash if it remains in their system for too long.
Recent developments:
- The Original family members who were in our possession have recently defected, and we've been unable to track them down.
- For the past 10 years, we still have been unable to find the remaining member of the Cullen coven, Esme Cullen.
- The Anchor to the Other Side has proven to be an exceptionally interesting and effective test subject.
All in all, things are progressing well, and I remain confident about the future of our research. These results are clear evidence that science will continue to prevail and remains important to us, even after the world ends.
Signing off,
Dr. Wes Maxfield
