Standing from her position, Bonnie removed her gardening gloves, giving them a good shake to fling off the dirt. She grabbed her basket of freshly picked herbs and then turned to re-enter her house. She approached the stove and grabbed a kettle, filling it with water and then leaving it to boil. She then went about sorting the assortment of herbs into different jars and placing them on the shelf beside the rest of her ingredients.
With that task taken care of, she felt officially ready to begin her baking. Taking out a recipe book, she flipped through the pages until she found one which her grandmother had marked as a favorite. After smiling and running a fond hand over the handwriting, Bonnie went about setting out the various supplies she would need. When the kettle whistled, she paused to pour herself a mug of loose-leaf rosebud tea and then let it steep as she went back to what she was doing.

Elena's boots clicked against the gravel road as she made her way to Bonnie's. Did Klaus really have to separate us? It's not like Bonnie's going to do anything. Why can't she live with me and Caroline? She shook her head as she, once again, thought about the stupid system which Klaus single-handedly came up with to 'keep the town safe'. Not only that, but vampires were separated from regular people, too. He really likes to show everyone how he differentiates people, doesn't he?
Her eyes rolled slightly at the thoughts before she forced them away. Come on, Elena. Just act normal. It's the end of the world...it may not get any better than this, she told herself, before coming to a stop in front of the gate surrounding her best friend's house. "Alright...come on." She let out a big breath before opening the gate and walking down the path, before four solid knocks fell on the wooden door.

At the knocks, Bonnie looked up from her task. She grinned as she pretty much guessed who it would be. It seemed her best friend was really the only visitor she received lately. Wiping the flour off her hands on a nearby towel, she first went to her mug and removed the steeper, then made her way to the front door. Before she answered it though, she glanced back and lifted a hand to light Elena's favorite candle scent. It was one she'd actually made herself. Candle-making had become as much a hobby as baking. She found she often felt the need to keep her hands busy these days.
"Hey!" Her grin widened as she opened the door and spread out her arms. "I've missed you!"

Elena's lips curled into a grin as her best friend opened the door, her arms outstretched, looking very much ready for a hug. "Hey, Bonnie," she said to the girl, giving a small laugh as she reached out to embrace her. "I've missed you, too." She leaned back to look at her from a distance, maintaining a small smile. "How've you been?"

Bonnie shrugged as she stepped aside to let Elena enter her house. "I've been doing alright. Keeping busy." Then her brows creased a little in open concern, "how have you been?" She could see how much the vampirism continued to bother her friend, but she decided to put off inquiring on that, specifically, for the time being. She wanted the girl to just be able to enjoy a nice, pleasant afternoon.

"Um..." she paused in her response after walking through the open door, her head lowering as she thought about that question. Wow...now I have to think to answer that question? She honestly didn't know how to answer it, though. So many people ask that question...'How you doin', Elena?'...'Are you okay?'...still, no matter the answer, she always said the same thing so they wouldn't have to worry. "I'm fine," she said, looking back up to her with a smile.
She couldn't complain forever, she couldn't...let this one thing hinder her all her life. She was still getting used to it, but...she had to do it eventually. Get used to it, accept it. This was her life now, there was no going back. But...even though she knew that...everyone looked at her differently. For years, everyone looked at her with a worried expression, not caring to hide it. It was like she was sick or something. She knew it might be a little selfish to think this way but...why did they have to treat her differently? Ever since she became a vampire, and...everything happened...they were always so worried. She was thankful to have such caring people in her life, but...she was still her. The same old Elena. It didn't change who she was underneath it all. Just...what she was on the outside.
Nonetheless, she had to stop thinking about that. If all she did was think about it all the time, she wouldn't get anywhere. She had to make it happen. Which...she'd told herself for year, yes, but...it had to happen eventually...right? At that thought, though, she caught a distinct scent in the air, causing her smile to soften into a fond sort. She took another whiff before looking back at her best friend. "Sandalwood?" Sandalwood was Elena's favorite scent. She didn't know why, but...for the longest time...every time she smelled it, she couldn't help the smile that came to her lips. It just made her feel...so comfortable. Bonnie knew that very well, too. You did this on purpose, didn't you? she asked internally, keeping her gaze on the shorter girl.

Bonnie nodded, her smile still in place, even when her brows furrowed a little further in worry. Sure, Elena had said she was fine, but she knew better than to believe that. Her tone, her expression, everything suggested that she was anything but. But, she nodded, pleased that her lighting the candle had succeeded in calming the poor girl. It just wasn't fair, any of it. She hadn't deserved any of this. "Yes, I lit it especially for you." She tried to keep her tone light, she really did, but she couldn't help feeling concerned. Would Elena spend the rest of her life like this? The rest of eternity? It broke her heart to think that.

"I knew it," she said, giving her friend a laugh to lighten up the mood. Bonnie didn't necessarily look pleased with her response a second ago. Elena gazed down at her for another moment before offering a smile. "Bonnie, I'm fine. Really. Right now, the only thing upsetting me is that look on your face." Well...that wasn't completely true, but it was something that bothered her. "Come on. Smile. For me, if nothing else."

Bonnie sighed heavily, before shaking her head as she smiled. She couldn't really say no to that. It was all Elena was asking for, and if it would help at all, she couldn't refuse. She turned and made her way to the kitchen, resigned to the fact that Elena wasn't really in the mood to discuss what was bothering her. She decided to just try later, after the girl had a chance to relax.
Reaching for her tea, she sweetened it and then looked to her friend, "would you like some?"

Elena stood there, gaze locked on the ground, once Bonnie walked passed her. She closed her eyes, trying to get her mood to brighten, and took a deep breath. After another moment, she turned her gaze back to watch her best friend in the kitchen. When she spoke to her, however, she gave her a smile before nodding her head, "Sure." She walked through the house, her eyes trailing over the random artifacts and pictures scattered throughout the witch's home. Upon reaching the living room, she sank comfortably into the couch, resting her head against the arm and lifting her legs to sprawl over the cushions.

Bonnie looked back as Elena took a seat on the sofa. She could tell how hard she was trying to look like she was really okay, but it was so obvious that she wasn't. Sighing to herself, the young witch went about preparing another mug of tea, sifting through her herbs to find one that might help soothe her friend. Chamomile would probably be good. She took out some of mix and let it steep as she looked to the recipe book absently. She decided to work a little more on the recipe while she waited for the tea.
"I'm making chamomile," she shouted into the living room. "Is that okay?"

"That's perfect," Elena shouted back to her best friend for her resting place, before letting her eyes close, snuggling into the cushions comfortably. "Are you making something, Bon?" Her voice rang out in question after a moment, noticing how the witch remained in the kitchen.
