Liz Forbes, Vitalia Santi After trudging forward a few paces, all while keeping a sharp eye out for any sudden movements, the rugged, weather-worn man stopped short in front of the run-down RV. It didn't look like there was anyone in the vicinity, but better safe than sorry. Readying the pistol in hand, the pistol loaded with mini-stakes that could take out any of those devils if they popped out at him, he took a quick second to peer inside the windows. He couldn't see much through them, though, there was a thick layer of dust, a layer that was obviously a result of many years of abandonment.
Looked like there was nothing for it. Holding his gun a little tighter in his grip, Alaric grabbed hold of the handle and then tugged the door open in one quick movement, before jumping inside the old vehicle. When he did, he quickly checked first to his right, then his left, and then heaved a sigh of relief. It was all clear.
He turned and stepped back out of the RV, a small smile now in place, as he glanced back over to the two he had left hiding behind a pile of rocks a few yards away.
"It's safe!" he called to them, before waving his entourage over.
Yeah, maybe he was being a little overly cautious. Hell, maybe he was even being downright paranoid, but he'd be damned if he let a little case of being too careless, too trusting cost any one of them their lives. Out here, in the wilds, they were prime targets for any of the vampires that hadn't been dragged off and forced to stay in that damn city. Humans were like a rare delicacy nowadays, and a group of three of them? Any vampire would do just about anything to get their hands on them. He wasn't taking any risks.
The sheriff watched the strange man as he moved cautiously through the trees, towards to recreational vehicle they'd spotted a ways back. She shook her head at his stiff movements, almost like a paranoid deer. At least he knew what he was doing.
She turned her gaze to the teenage girl beside her. They'd found her a while back when they began holding their own out in these woods. They hadn't seen many humans in the world then, so when they discovered she wasn't a vampire, they couldn't help being a little relieved. Of course, they did a standard questioning of the girl to make sure she was trustworthy, but in the end...she just seemed scared. Like she was trying to stay strong, but...she couldn't hide that pain. Poor thing lost her whole family all those years ago, didn't have anyone. Eventually, Liz began feeling protective of her. It could never really be helped, could it? Liz was never able to keep herself from feeling nurturing towards people like this, she'd always done that. Now, though...now that Caroline was gone...Hell, now that all of Mystic Falls was broken down as she knew it...she couldn't help subconsciously seeking those bonds.
The sound of the vampire hunter yelling out to them brought her back to reality. She turned her head to look at the man before rising from her position behind the rock. She made her way over to the RV, patting him on the shoulder as she passed. "You could've made a Hell of a cop, you know that?" she said to him with a lighthearted smirk. "With skills like that, I doubt anything would get past you."
She headed into the portable home on wheels, glancing around to take in the supplies. "Not much to it, is there?" she asked with a slight sigh. Of course there wasn't. She just shook her head before turning back to him. "Alright, let's get what we have put inside, then we can go out and look for the necessities. We'll have to go together, just to make sure nothing sneaks up on any of us, but we wanna keep an eye on the RV, so let's not go far." She then raised her head to again assess their company. After a moment, she spoke again, "She's probably worn out from all the moving, though...I don't wanna push her too hard. Maybe she should just rest for a little while."

Glancing over at Diego's kid, Ric gave a somewhat troubled smile. He knew she'd insist that she was fine, and it was true, she was a tough girl, but...the fact was, Liz was right, and a little rest would probably do her some good. They'd been pushing it a lot today. Hell, it could do them all some good, but that wasn't exactly a luxury they could afford right now.
"Why don't you stay here with her?" he suggested, looking back to the sheriff with a determined gleam in his eyes. "If it's only for a little while, I should be fine on my own. I'll gather up what I can find, and you two stay here. If we wait too long, we'll lose what visibility we have." He glanced over then, to that sphere in the sky, which was falling dangerously close to the horizon. They were never more vulnerable than they were at night.
Turning back to Liz, he gave a brief nod, "Keep an eye on each other while I'm gone, alright?"
She gave a slight scoff at that, turning a joking gaze on him, "Of course. What, you think I don't know what I'm doing?" Liz's gaze then turned back on the girl. "Just...be careful," she said shortly before taking a step out of the vehicle. She trusted him, that he knew what he was doing, but she couldn't afford to lose him. And, honestly...that would just hurt like a bitch. Losing him or the girl. They'd all gotten close, obviously, and...she really didn't want to lose any more people than she already had.
"Hey!" she called to the girl, waving her over with a hand. "We're thinking we can stay in this run down RV for the night. You can rest up for now, if you want. It's got a bed all set up and everything."
"You don’t have to take my memories away. I’ll keep your secret."

Damn, the apocalypse sucked! She was so tired! She knew she was pretty active before, but this was just extreme. Pushing the limits, so to speak. It was very, very draining...but exciting at the same time. Sure, she used to travel all the time and make up adventures in her mind, but this was a real adventure. A fresh challenge waited for her every time she opened her eyes. Even when she was sleeping, she couldn't be too careful. Danger lurked around every corner. That thought alone made her heart race at the thrill. People used to say the way she handled fear was weird, but who cared? Fear excited her. She loved pushing past it and her curiosity always beat it, anyway. That's why when Ric and Liz went off of their routine searches, she would imagine what it would be like if she actually met up with a vampire.
She was told they were just heartless bloodsuckers, they killed without remorse, but weren't they doing exactly what they were doing? Surviving? Sure, most of the vamps out there probably killed just for fun and because they were more powerful than humans, but she help but feel like there was more to the story. People were diverse. Why couldn't vampires be that way too? Maybe there were some out there that managed to hold onto part of their human selves. Maybe they felt things like guilt and remorse.
The teen shrugged, though. Who really knew? It was all just ideas until she met one of the human mosquitoes, but she really hoped she was right. It would be the greatest thing to actually have a conversation with one. Of course, they would have to be a reasonable one. If luck was on her side, she wouldn't be proven right only to get stuck with one of lower intelligence. That would just be a cruel joke. Tsk.
However, Vitalia snapped herself out of her internal rant when she saw the sheriff reemerge from the trashed RV. Looks like everything's good to go, she observed to herself, pushing herself off the boulder and brushing the dirt of her legs. She was getting a little bored waiting around, honestly, which was why when the older woman suggested that she stay behind and rest her mind instantly objected despite her body's protest. She was exhausted and the thought of lying down in a bed sounded so welcoming, but she needed to do something more active than running and hiding behind rocks before shutting down for the day. They probably needed to go on a supply search and that would be perfect.
"Thanks, Sheriff, but I'm good," Vitalia waved it away. "I've still got loads of energy to spare!"
"I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers, but I'll tell you a secret...all the best people are."

Yep. That's exactly what he'd figured she would say. At her words, her reassurances to the both of them, however, Alaric instantly shook his head. "It's already been decided," he informed her, walking over to give the girl a quick pat on the head. "You stay here with the sheriff. I need you guys to unload everything, set up camp for us. I'm gonna go and see if I can't find any supplies for us." Putting on a stern look, he then added, "No arguing."
"I am not on painkillers. In fact, I feel awful. But I'm enjoying every miserable, human moment of the pain."

Vitalia arched a brow at his tone, but she relented anyway. Arguing wouldn't get her anywhere. When Ric laid down the law, shit got real. She dropped her gaze in disappointment, letting the air out of her cheeks. "Fine." Glancing back up at him, though, she pointed a finger at him and smirked, "But next time, you can't stop me."

"Yeah, we'll just see about that," Ric responded, an amused smirk forming at the corner of his mouth. "You listen to Liz while I'm gone."
With that, he took a few things they'd need from his backpack, and handed them to Vitalia, before tightening his hold on it and heading out. He was a little worried, leaving the two on their own like this, but he reassured himself by insisting that they were both perfectly capable of looking out for themselves. They'd be alright, and he'd left plenty of weapons for them, too. He wouldn't be gone long... He lowered the pistol to his side, as he focused his eyes on the many areas of rubble, trying to see if there was anything salvageable he could take back for them.

Vitalia obediently took the items from him and handed a few off to Liz. She then turned her icy blue gaze to Alaric as he walked off on his own. She pursed her lips. He didn't need to be so worried about them all the time. Every time she said she could handle herself, he shot her down because you can never be too careful. Well, shouldn't the same logic also apply to him? Apparently not...he was always going off on his own and it made her worry more than it should. Looking from him to Liz and back, she once again noted they were all she had left. They only had each other so he really needed to stop his habit of going alone like that. What if, next time, he actually ran into a problem. What then?
The young Santi groaned before spinning on her heel and walking up the few steps into the RV. They needed to set up like he asked. Still, she was gonna have a talk with him when he came back. No more riding solo from now on! She would also abide by that rule if he did. Nodding her head in finality, her eyes caught the glint of a hunting knife which she examined shortly before stuffing it securely into her boot. Turning around, she then stuck her head out the window to address their lady sheriff. "You want dibs on anything?"
"I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers, but I'll tell you a secret...all the best people are."
Niklaus Mikaelson: Heheh. That is quite the title you've concocted for her ;1 But, you're right, and we are all certainly glad you do it, puting this effort into for us. At least it's productive in some way. You could find yourself wasted also. Then where would we be?

Elijah Mikaelson: I would think in a place he would enjoy.

Damon Salvatore: True, very true there, stiffy ;1 Don't know about the rest of you, but *I'll* be in a place I enjoy.
