Happy Accident [Klaus/Caroline]

At the intensity in Klaus' eyes, and after hearing his response, Caroline felt her smile fade and her narrowed eyes widen a little in surprise. He just sat there looking at her, lost in his thoughts. He'd leaned closer, and her hand clenched just a little. Why did she suddenly feel a little uncomfortable? A little vulnerable? If she was understanding him correctly...his answer meant that she was a special case. He'd singled her out. That pleased her more than she either expected or wanted it to.

After another moment of being held still by his eyes, she slowly started to compose herself as she cleared her throat and shifted her eyes a bit. "I see," she said only, trying to think of anything more to say. It was kind of unbelievable that he'd been around so long and hadn't really taken an interest in many people. Maybe he'd been let down or something? She smirked a little. She could see it. But, at the same time, it was also hard to see. With him staring like that. 'Wait, what does that mean?' she questioned herself. It wasn't like he was having much of an effect over her.

At her reaction to his words, the subtle clenching of her hand, the drop of her gaze, the obvious discomfort that was coming over the girl, Klaus' smile returned. He couldn't very well deny what a pleasant sight that was, and, more than that, it seemed the implications weren't lost on her.

"Happy to know we're on the same page, then," he returned.

Before he could say anymore, their waiter made an appearance, carrying out that dessert of Caroline's and setting it on the table in front of her. Well...that should please her. The man apologized briefly for the wait, and then proceeded to inquiry after their beverages. In response, Klaus merely fixed his eyes upon the blonde once more and said, "After you, love."

Caroline smirked a little as Klaus, again, allowed her to take the lead. But, first, she decided to inspect her dessert. It was a lemon souffle, and it was always so delicious. "Finally," she said, despite being completely satisfied with her treat. She then flipped her hair and looked up at the waiter. "I'll have an iced tea."

He smirked a little at her request, and at that little comment it seemed she just had to make, before glancing over at the waiter himself and informing him, "And I'll take a bourbon, on the rocks." After a moment, the man walked off, leaving them alone once more, and Klaus again brought his eyes to rest upon the beautiful woman seated across from him. It turned out she hadn't come here for a meal at all, but, rather, a dessert. Well...that was certainly interesting to see.

Ignoring Klaus' stare, she could practically just feel it on her, Caroline lifted her fork and then brought a bite of the souffle to her mouth. Closing her eyes, she sighed a little as she chewed. It was heavenly. She savored it and then opened her eyes, hastily taking another bite.

Klaus watched, in amusement, as the girl began to delve into her dessert, releasing a pleasurable sigh as she ate it, and practically devouring the next bite. He had to hold back another laugh at the display, wholly convinced she wouldn't take it well, before opting to merely observe, "Enjoying that quite a bit, aren't we?"

Caroline swallowed her bite and prepared another bit, holding her fork suspended before her mouth as she looked to him. "Yes, as a matter of fact I am." She couldn't really tell whether he was being condescending, or just making an observation. Either way, it didn't matter. "I get this every week here."

Well, except for the time when they had run out. That had been extremely frustrating and so, ever since, she had made a point of notifying the chef ahead of time, so that she wouldn't have to waste her time coming down here.

"Really?" Klaus asked then, curiosity seeping into his tone. The same thing, every week? He imagined that might get a little...repetitious, dull even. But then, she did strike him as the sort of person who rather preferred maintaining a certain schedule. Even where her dessert was concerned, apparently.

"Must be quite something, if it keeps you coming back, every time," he remarked. "Lemon souffle...to my understanding, that isn't even an item you could find on the menu here, is it?" However had this woman managed to coax the chef into preparing it for her? With an admiring sort of glint in his eye, the Original marveled at her, "You're quite a force to be reckoned with, aren't you?"

That pleased Caroline immensely and she paused as he looked at her, looking up over her fork at him, meeting the return of his intense stare. Why did he have to do that? But, she shrugged as an answering smile crossed her face. "I like to think so." She was a force, one immovable and determined. She'd accomplished quite a few things since becoming a vampire, both in her personal and vampiric life, taking challenges on as they came, overcoming them and always ready for the next thing. She loved to take action, and anyone who stood in her way had to answer for it.

She took the bite resting on her fork and then set it down, with a nod. "And yes, it is something, and after I so kindly asked Lance to make it for me, he was more than happy to do it."

She did seem so very pleased with herself, didn't she? Pleased with every bit of praise he had offered her, and, more than that, pleased with the indisputable power she seemed to hold. Though she answered a bit coyly, it was unmistakable, both from her tone and that proud little smile, just how much she agreed with him. She was a funny little thing, wasn't she? So much...spunk.

"Seems you have it in rather good with this Lance fellow," Klaus observed. His smile turning a bit playful, then, he added, "Am I in for a bit of competition here?"

"Hm..." Caroline's eyes narrowed, and she figured she could respond in one of two ways. Either she argue that he wasn't even a competitor, or play along and mess with him a little. She tilted her head and decided. "That depends. Do you have any idea how to make souffle?" But, really, Lance was a middle-aged, kind of heavyset guy with a wife. So not her type.

"Hm...," at that, the Original feigned a mildly downcast look. "Unfortunately, I can't say baking falls within my area of expertise. 'Course," here, a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, "I'd be more than willing to try my hand at it, all the same."
